BONDS by IQOS is a compact, all-in-one heated tobacco device designed around an external heating system called ROUNDHEAT TOBACCO TECHNOLOGY™. Unlike conventional cigarettes, the system heats the compatible tobacco stick rather than burning it. According to IQOS, BONDS is designed specifically for use with BLENDS sticks and does not require routine cleaning.

The device is positioned as a simple, pocket-sized option for adult nicotine users who want a heated tobacco format. Its external heating technology surrounds the outside of the compatible stick, while the compact aluminium body is designed for portability.

One of the most important things to understand about IQOS BONDS is that it is not the same system as IQOS ILUMA. BONDS uses ROUNDHEAT-compatible BLENDS sticks, while IQOS ILUMA devices use their own compatible stick system. The two are not interchangeable.

What Is IQOS BONDS?

IQOS BONDS is an all-in-one heated tobacco device. Instead of using a separate holder and pocket charger, the BONDS system integrates the necessary components into one compact device.

Its main technology is ROUNDHEAT TOBACCO TECHNOLOGY™, which heats the outer circumference of the compatible tobacco stick. IQOS describes this as a resistive external heating method that heats around the stick without directly burning the tobacco.

The design is intended to provide a tobacco-heating experience without ash and without the smoke produced by burning a conventional cigarette.

However, heated tobacco does not mean risk-free. The product contains or delivers nicotine depending on the compatible consumable, and nicotine is addictive. It is intended only for adults who already smoke or use nicotine products.

IQOS BONDS Specifications

The specifications can vary by market, but the current IQOS UAE product information lists the following key features:

IQOS notes that the number of sessions per charge can vary according to usage conditions and the type of ROUNDHEAT stick used.

ROUNDHEAT TOBACCO TECHNOLOGY™

External Heating Instead of Blade Heating

The defining feature of BONDS is its external heating technology.

The device heats the tobacco stick around its outer surface rather than inserting a conventional heating blade into the tobacco. IQOS states that the ROUNDHEAT system surrounds the stick and uses resistive heating to provide controlled heating without burning the tobacco.

This design also means BONDS does not use the same blade-style system associated with some older IQOS generations.

No Routine Cleaning

One notable convenience feature is the lack of routine cleaning.

IQOS states that BONDS does not require cleaning to maintain optimal performance. This is connected to its external heating design, which avoids inserting a heating blade directly into the stick.

Even though routine internal cleaning is not required, keeping the exterior and mouthpiece area clean is still sensible for everyday use.

BLENDS Sticks for IQOS BONDS

BONDS is designed specifically for compatible BLENDS tobacco sticks.

The official IQOS UAE information describes BLENDS as real tobacco sticks that are heated rather than burned. Available varieties can include traditional tobacco profiles as well as tobacco blends with additional flavour characteristics.

The exact BLENDS range depends on the market.

The Japanese BONDS site currently lists varieties including Rich Classics, Balanced Classics, Icy Fresh, and Blueberry.

The structure of BLENDS sticks is also specifically designed for the BONDS heating system. The official Japanese product information gives an approximate length of 45mm and diameter of 7.3mm, with 20 sticks per pack.

IQOS BONDS vs IQOS ILUMA

One of the most common questions about BONDS concerns compatibility with TEREA.

BONDS and IQOS ILUMA are different heated tobacco systems.

BONDS Uses BLENDS

BONDS is designed for BLENDS sticks that use the ROUNDHEAT heating system.

ILUMA Uses Compatible ILUMA Sticks

IQOS ILUMA devices are designed for their own compatible consumables, such as TEREA in markets where TEREA is available.

The official BONDS support information specifically states that IQOS ILUMA sticks are not compatible with BONDS because their heating method and specifications are different.

Likewise, BLENDS sticks should not be used in IQOS ILUMA devices.

This distinction is important when buying both devices and consumables.

How to Use IQOS BONDS

Step 1: Charge the Device

Before using a new BONDS device, charge it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

The current IQOS UAE specifications list USB-C charging and approximately 120 minutes for a full charge.

Step 2: Insert a Compatible BLENDS Stick

Insert a compatible BLENDS stick into the device as instructed.

Do not force the stick into the device and do not modify it.

Only use sticks specifically designed for BONDS.

Step 3: Start the Heating Session

Activate the device according to the instructions supplied with your particular BONDS model.

The current product information lists approximately 30 seconds of preheating time.

Step 4: Use During the Session

Once the device indicates that it is ready, use the stick normally.

The BONDS system can support up to three consecutive sessions according to current IQOS UAE specifications.

Step 5: Remove the Used Stick

After the session, remove the used BLENDS stick once it has cooled sufficiently.

Do not reuse a tobacco stick.

Dispose of used sticks according to local waste-disposal requirements.

Battery and Charging

Battery performance is an important part of a compact all-in-one heated tobacco device.

IQOS currently lists BONDS as capable of providing up to 28 BLENDS sessions on a full charge, although the actual number can vary depending on usage conditions and the stick type.

The device uses USB-C charging.

For safe everyday use, charge it according to the manufacturer’s instructions and avoid exposing it to excessive heat, water, or physical damage.

Design and Portability

BONDS is designed around a compact, pocket-sized form factor.

The current UAE specifications list a height of 108.4mm, width of 29.5mm, and weight of 88g.

Its aluminium body contributes to the lightweight design while giving the device a solid exterior.

Because it is an all-in-one device, there is no separate pocket charger to carry around.
